Discover Your Passion…..Your Ikigai

You hear every day in day out somebody telling you that you should focus on your passion.  The question is, “how do I know what my passion is?”  This is a question that yet many people ask themselves…

You have heard of people taking how the younger generation (i.e. the Millennials or Gen Y’s) who were thought to be more concerned about this.  How IBM (Institute of Business Value) research confirms that the Baby Boomers and the Millennials are working actually on what they are passionate about.

In order for you to focus on your passion, you first need to find what you are passionate about.  Ikigai is a Japanese work which means “reason for being”.  Reason for being means what makes your heart race, bring the spark in your eyes and that you are able to accomplish even in your sleep.

Ikigai holds a strong “purposeful” connotation because it is believed that it has a union of 4 elements:

  1. What you love
  2. What you are good at
  3. What the world needs, and
  4. What you can be paid for.

The Japanese see the discovery of your ikigai as requiring a deep, long search within yourself that can bring about satisfaction and meaning to life.
